Expressway Construction

Traffic surrounding New Hudson, MI, and neighboring areas can become troublesome, especially during rush hour. Fortunately, the expressway I-96 is undergoing construction that will help improve the flow of traffic in and out of the area.

While we look forward to this change and welcome it, it will cause some closures at first. Some of these closures are close to home, in fact, making it harder to get to our dealership here at Feldman Chevrolet of New Hudson. From Spring 2024 through Fall 2024, WB I-96 to NB/SB Milford will be closed for construction. The detour will be accessed through WB I-96, SB Kent Lake and EB Grand River to Milford.

The construction on Interstate 96, dubbed the Interstate 96 Flex Route project, has begun. The project overall will last around two years and cost around 269 million dollars. The Flex Route traffic program includes opening up existing shoulders during times of high traffic and ramp metering and adding an additional lane that will improve the overall flow of traffic on the congested highway.

Throughout construction, parts of the freeway and ramps will be closed. Accordingly, the Michigan Department of Transportation has suggested drivers potentially make use of backroads rather than the interstate.
