This organization would eventually evolve into the Plymouth Community United Way that we know and love. While their name changed, their mission to address and serve human needs in the areas of Plymouth, Canton, and Western Wayne County.

The Impact They Have on the Community They Serve

The main goal of Plymouth Community United Way is to “create opportunities for a better life for all.” They approach every opportunity with the philosophy that partnerships matter. In order to better individual lives, they need to change the systems that serve them.

They take a top-down approach to create change in their community when addressing life’s many building blocks, basic needs like food, health, resources, and education. By working interdependently with other organizations—like food pantries and emergency assistance organizations—they can create opportunities for individual growth.

They provide a wide variety of resources for those in the community to take advantage of including:

  • Clothing AssistanceClothing & food assistance through organized drives
  • Assistance with finding affordable housing & jobs
  • Guidance for domestic violence & drug abuse situations

These are just a handful of the resources you’ll find through their websites. They also work with a series of advocates that can provide personalized advice and strategy plans for overall life improvement.
